Soybean Foods and Their Benefits

The consumption of soy foods may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, and this effect is seen particularly among Asian populations, in whom consumption of soy foods is high, compared with Western populations, who eat smaller amounts of soy.

In addition to cancer and heart disease, data suggest that soy may also reduce the risk of osteoporosis and help to alleviate menopausal symptoms, both of which are major health concerns for women. The aim of this review is to discuss current knowledge relating to the possible mechanisms by which some of the bioactive components in soybeans protect against cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and osteoporosis.
